Sign makers are only as good as their last job, as far as customers are concerned. Do a job badly and the chances are that customer won’t use you again. Do it right – and by this we mean to expectation, if not beyond, and at great value for money – and the likelyhood is that the customer will come back to you for additional services. Such is the case with OpSec Security, a leading anti-piracy and counterfeit protection company with offices in Leicester.
Sign Here’s original involvement with OpSec began with the creation of a fascia sign for the exterior of their new office building. This was very well received, so being aware of our full range of signage products and services, they naturally they decided to call upon us when the time came to create a vast array of indoor signage for their new office. If you haven’t been involved with commissioning indoor signage for an entire building, you may not appreciate just how much work goes into the task. Working directly with the facility manager, our technicians undertook a step by step examination of every space within the building, noting instructions from the client regarding the exact nature of signage required in relation to their usage and the environmental circumstances they would each be placed in. Decisions based on which materials were suitable for each given requirement were made to ensure the correct solution would be in place.
Once the initial inspection is completed we mock-up digital visuals for the client. This allows them to get a feel for the scale of the signage in relation to their location, and confirms to them the content of each sign. This also confirms the nature of the sign, including materials to be used. At this stage all costs have been confirmed and agreed to. We then generate designs via our SignLab digital software, where decisions including exact colour matching are made. It goes without saying that colour selection is very important and must adhere to the customer’s existing brand guidelines. Once these have been signed off we produce individual job sheets which provide accurate specifications for our technicians to adhere to.
This acrylic stand off sign is one such example. Having had all the specifications signed off, our technicians produce Avery vinyl graphics via our full colour digital printer. These are then cut on our vinyl plotter and prepped for applying to 5mm perspex acrylic. These graphics are applied to the reverse side, ensuring their integrity and longevity.
Once assembled, the sign is ready for installation. Of course rather than doing this piecemeal, we will wait until multiple signs are ready, then do so in batches. As part of the preparation process, each sign will have previously been designated measurements and positioning for installment. This information, in combination with a life size paper drawing representing the sign, are used to ensure accurate placement. Hole positions are calculated prior to drilling into the wall.
Each hole receives a stand off barrel fixing (known in the sign making trade as ferrel fixings) which is then screwed firmly in place. The holes in the sign are then aligned with the fixings before being secured with screw caps. This method of fixing is not only safe and secure, it offers an elegant and stylish solution ideally suited for clear acrylic. Following a quick clean the sign is ready.
